Our Cottages

We have two cottages -- "Cromwell Cottage" and "Cavalier Cottage".  They are named (according to local legend!) in honour of some of their earliest guests!

Yes, Oliver Cromwell is reputed to have stayed in one of our cottages on his way to Ireland in the early 1600s.  As for the other cottage, we know that one of the owners in the 19th century was a knight.  So it seemed only reasonable to name the other cottage after the Cavaliers.

Cromwell Cottage

Cromwell Cottage is part of a 16th-century, Welsh long-house; it was renovated in 2001.  Cromwell Cottage is furnished in a traditional, Welsh style, with much of the original stonework and roof structure exposed.  The cottage has a huge "inglenook" fireplace, with a massive oak beam across the top.  The beam and many of the rafters have been "recycled" from sailing ships in the 18th and 19th centuries.  Cromwell Cottage is full of "atmosphere".  It sleeps 2 in a loft overlooking the main room and can accommodate 2 more (in a pinch) on a pull-out sofa bed.

Cavalier Cottage

Cavalier Cottage was converted in 2002.  Cavalier Cottage is painted, inside and outside, with whitewash.  So it has a lighter and more contemporary feel than Cromwell Cottage -- more Laura Ashley than traditional Welsh.  Like Cromwell Cottage, Cavalier Cottage has an exposed roof structure.  Cavalier Cottage also has a cozy, wood-burning stove.  The cottage has a separate bedroom that sleeps 2 and an en suite bathroom.

These two, charming cottages are part of our small farm at Knightsford.  So that means fresh, free-range eggs are available every day.  At times, you can also get lamb, pork (including sausages), and chicken produced at Knightsford.  From your patio, you can enjoy gorgeous views across beautiful farmland and out over the Towi River estuary.  Stretch your legs with a brisk walk around the fields.  Then, as night falls, sit out on the patio beneath more stars than you ever imagined there were -- or cosy up to a warm fire indoors.

Life just doesn't get any better. . . .

Dogs are always welcome at Knightsford and (by advance arrangement) we can provide stabling for horses, including use of a sand school.
